§ 1-2-2. Mayor pro tem.

  • (a)

    The council shall, at the first meeting of council in January of each year, elect one of its members as mayor pro tempore for a period of one (1) year and the mayor pro tempore shall serve until his successor is elected and qualified to office.

    (b)

    It shall be the duty of the mayor pro tempore to act as mayor during the absence or disability of the mayor, or in the case of a vacancy in the office of mayor.

    Editorial Note : The Ord. of 2/28/83 provided that the change specified in that ordinance from a two year term of office to a one year term would become effective on the expiration of the term of the then existing mayor pro tem (January, 1985).
