§ 2-3-1. Definitions.

  • As used in this article, the following terms shall have the respective meanings ascribed to them:

    (a)

    Alarm business . The business of servicing, repairing, altering, replacing, moving or installing any serviced, repaired, altered, replaced, moved or installed alarm system in or on any building, structure or facility and shall not include any other activity of said business.

    (b)

    Alarm device . Any type of alarm system actuating equipment providing warning of intrusion, robbery, fire, smoke, or other peril.

    (c)

    Alarm installation . Any alarm device or combination of devices installed for one (1) or more buildings at a location.

    (d)

    Automatic dialing device . Any type of device which automatically sends signals over regular telephone lines, as distinguished from dedicated telephone line.

    (e)

    Dedicated alarm line . A special leased telephone line circuit for the sole purpose of transmitting alarm signals.

    (f)

    Digital alarms . An alarm which automatically sends signals over regular telephone lines, which ultimately connect to a receiver.

    (g)

    Direct connecting alarms . Those alarms utilizing dedicated alarm lines to connect to a remote receiver.

    (h)

    False alarm . Any alarm actuated by inadvertent negligence or unintentional action of someone other than an intruder and shall include alarms caused by malfunctioning of the alarm device or relevant equipment, but shall not include alarms created by malfunction due to natural peril (lightning, thunderstorm, flood, etc.)

    (i)

    Local alarm . Any alarm device which, when activated, produces a signal not connected in any way to the police department or fire department.

    (j)

    Owner . The title owner of real estate or premises on which or in which an alarm system is located.

    (k)

    Tape dialer alarms . An alarm system which automatically sends signals over regular telephone lines and plays a prerecorded message.

    (l)

    User . The person, persons, or entity in control of the premises on which or in which an alarm system is located, regardless of whether the control of the premises arises from ownership, leasehold interest, or permissive use of any kind.
