§ 7-4-32. Permit required.

  • It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to move, or cause to be moved, any house or dwelling on, through, over, or along the streets, roads, sidewalks, alleys or other public place within the city, without first submitting the following required information:

    (1)

    The date and time of moving the house, structure or building.

    (2)

    A detailed statement and map setting forth the proposed route to be followed in moving the structure, the equipment to be used and specifying the person in charge of the moving operation. Any required tree trimming must be submitted in this statement. The removal of any tree or tree limb not specifically authorized in the tree removal permit, caused in conjunction with the house moving, will result in a fine as defined by the tree preservation ordinance.

    (3)

    A survey of the property demonstrating that the that the property onto which the house is to be located meets the minimum standards of the zoning ordinance in which the property is to locate. Any easements on the property must be shown on the survey.

    (4)

    A scaled site plan showing the location on to which the structure is to be moved must be submitted. All setbacks must be noted on the plans. Also note structure height and roof pitch on the plan. All trees that are proposed to be removed from the site must be shown on the site plan. The removal of any tree or tree limb not specifically authorized in the tree removal permit caused in conjunction with the house moving will result in a fine as defined by the tree preservation ordinance.

    (5)

    Foundation plans for the structure on the new lot must be submitted to the building department for review and approval, along with the required building fees.

    (6)

    The name of the owner of the structure and the name of the owner of the premises to which it is being moved along with written permission showing the applicant is entitled to move the structure onto proposed premises must be submitted.

    (7)

    An agreement that the house mover shall indemnify and hold the city harmless from any claim or damages to persons or property resulting from the moving of the structure for which the permit is requested.

    (8)

    Approval in writing and supervision by all utility companies is required.

    (9)

    A minimum $5,000 bond must be posted to cover the cost of any damages in the public right-of-way. Any damages in the public right-of-way that exceed $5,000 are the responsibility of the applicant.

    (10)

    The house must be inspected by the building official prior to relocation.

    (11)

    Payment of all applicant water and sewer fees for the new location of the building must be made.

    (12)

    A certificate of insurance from the moving company with an amount appropriate for the job as determined by the building official must be submitted.

    (13)

    A moving fee of $150 must be paid.

    (14)

    All applicable business license fees must be paid.
