§ 8-3-1. Definitions.

  • Unless the context clearly indicates otherwise, the following terms shall have the meanings ascribed herein.

    (1)

    Touring vehicles . A commercial chartered, or institutionally affiliated vehicle transporting passengers whose major purpose is to visit or drive by historic sights, cultural attractions or scenic areas within the historic districts.

    Touring vehicles are classified by size as follows:

    Class 1: (Mid-size vehicle) any vehicle used for touring with an official exterior length of 26 feet or less.

    Class 2: (Large vehicle) any vehicle used for touring measuring between 26 ½ feet and 45 feet bumper to bumper.

    Class 3: Any vehicle used for touring exceeding 45 feet in length or those with articulated center portions.

    (2)

    Non-touring vehicle . A commercial, chartered, or institutionally affiliated vehicle used only for the purpose of transporting passengers for shopping, dining, touring on foot, or off-loading onto a registered touring vehicle or watercraft based within the city limits. The non-touring vehicle classification is the same as the touring vehicle classification.

    (3)

    Historic district . The area corresponding to the Conway Main Street U.S.A. historic district. (Kingston Lake to Elm Street, Waccamaw River to 5th Avenue)

    (4)

    Special permit card . Used for specific non-touring purposes for transporting passengers.

    (5)

    Tour coordinator . The person or agency designated by the city council. Responsible for coordinating touring/ non-touring vehicles as well as the training/testing and scheduling of tour guides certified by the city of Conway.

    (6)

    Tour guide . A person who conducts for-hire interpretive, historical information, or entertainment based programs for the benefit of an audience, whether conducted on foot, by vehicle, or watercraft based within the city limits.
