§ 9-2-9. Dishonored checks.

  • (a)

    It shall be unlawful for any person, firm, or corporation to issue, draw, make, or deliver to the city any check, draft, or other written order on any bank or depository, for the payment of any goods, fees, services, taxes, assessments, penalties, or fines, which check, draft, or written order shall be returned to the city, after presentment to the drawee, by reason of the dishonor of same by the drawee.

    (b)

    For every dishonored check, draft, or written order, there shall be a penalty of $10, the said penalty constituting and becoming a part and parcel of the original debt for such goods, fees, services, taxes, assessments, penalties, or fines, and shall be collectible by the city in the same manner as provided by law for the collection of the original debt.

    (c)

    Notice of the penalty for dishonored checks shall be posted in the office of the city clerk.
